Christchurch from Dwyer Pass Road10th December 2003

Flying in to New Zealand on a clear day is the best way to arrive. The landscape from above is an extrordinary preview of what you will see when you live there.

This picture is of Christchurch (actually on a rainy day in January) from Dyers Pass Road. There is a lookout and a very nice restaurant, the "Sign of the Takahe".

You can't see the mountains in this photo but you can see the foothills. We frequently travel on Dyers pass road to get to our favourite pub at Governors bay. We'll make sure we get this photo again in Winter.

We drove up here on our first day in Christchurch but at that stage we didn't have a camera. We left a very expensive Pentax in a hire car in Perth and weren't able to take any photos until we bought a digital camera in Christchurch in January.

Once we arrived at the house we put our luggage inside and went straight to the car and headed into town for breakfast. We sat in a booth at the Bard on Avon pub and had a wonderful english breakfast of bacon, eggs, hash browns, sausages, toast, juice and coffee.

I tried to impart, over breakfast, everything I had experienced in Christchurch since October to my jet-lagged family. After breakfast we drove up to the lookout on Dwyer pass road. Beyond that we decided it was time to rest and we went home

Although we were already renting a house in Christchurch when we arrived we had no furniture or bedding and one of our friends had booked us into Chateau on the Park for our first night in Christchurch.
