12th February 2005
Well, another warm day and another opportunity to go to the beach. We have had some magnificent weather this summer.
Again e headed off around 11am and took the summit road on Bank's Peninsular to Lebon's Beach. This is another of the fan shaped beaches that make up this peninsular.
Lebon's beach is quiet, pehaps a dozen people here on this beautiful summer day, with a wide beach. The water was shallow and warm.
A narrow channel runs along the right hand edge of the beach and my son and I decided to walk up and investigate it. After that we waded out to a cave we could see some distance around the bay. The water was very calm and was still only waste deep when we reached the cave, which turned out to be a shallow depression in the rocks.
We turned back and walked directly across the bay to where we had left our towels. We swam for several hours and practically had the beach to ourselves all afternoon.
We bought an ice cream each from a little trailer that had been towed down onto the beach.
While this was another wonderful beach I think I preferred Okain's beach. The camping ground at Lebon's is far from the beach itself. At Okains, the camping area is almost on the beach.
The other advantage of Okain's is a stand of pine trees that afford shade close to the beach if the sun is a little fierce.
Around 5pm a breeze came up and we decided to head for home. As always, part of the delight in coming here is the journey. The views over Banks Peninsular from the summit road are magnificent.
